Fiona Carter

Ceramic Artist, Sydney, Australia

I’m Fiona Carter, a ceramist based in Willoughby on Sydney’s lower North Shore. My journey with clay began in 2022 at Northern Beaches TAFE (Brookvale), where I completed the two-year Ceramics Foundations course. In 2024, I continued my studies by commencing the 2 year Diploma of Ceramics, deepening my understanding of form, materials and the many possibilities of this craft.

Before discovering ceramics, I spent many years working creatively in other fields. I’m a qualified pastry cook, having completed the Retail Baking certificate at NSI TAFE, and I ran my own baking business, BakedByFiona, creating beautiful celebration cakes for my customers.

For over sixteen years I also owned and operated Ribbons Galore, an online store offering ribbons and craft supplies sourced from around the world. Running a long-term online business taught me the ins and outs of ecommerce, from customer experience to product photography—which remains one of my great passions and now plays a meaningful role in presenting my ceramics.

Creativity, in one form or another, has always been at the heart of what I do. Photography, cake baking and decorating, sewing, crochet, paper crafts, macramé and many other hands-on pursuits have kept me busy over the years. I’ve worked as a Creative Editor for a paper crafts magazine and have taught at craft shows across Australia as well as in private studios.

Today, I work from my ceramics workshop in northern Sydney, shaping pieces that reflect calm, craft and considered design.

Thank you for visiting my website and for supporting handmade work.
